Mirima Kibale Lodge

Mirima Kibale Lodge crowns a quiet ridge above Lake Nyamirima, Lake Nyinabuliitwa, and Lake Nyabikere, where crater-lake light shifts through the day, and Kibale’s forest line sits on the horizon. It’s a well placed safari eco-lodge for Kibale mornings, so chimp trekking days can start without a rush.

Stay high above Lake Nyamirima, close to Kibale

Mirima Kibale Lodge sits on the ridge above Lake Nyamirima, with crater Lakes Nyinabulitwa and Nyabikere spread across the landscape and Kibale National Park’s forest line running dark beyond villages and tea plantations. You wake to water below you and in a spacious cottage surrounded by nature. Being close to the park's daily briefing point helps our guests start the morning with time to spare. No long road transfer before the chimpanzee trekking experience—just breakfast, a short drive, and you arrive in high spirits.

Then you come back to what Mirima does best. A private balcony when you want cool lake air and silence. A fireplace when the evening cools. A bed made for deep sleep. Hosting that keeps the feel of the day easy—meals, timing, and the small details that stop you thinking about logistics. And because the lodge is rooted here, your stay links to practical community work through Gorilla Junction Foundation, including local water and skills projects—impact that sits inside the place, quietly. The rhythm breezes through forest mornings, lakeside afternoons, and an evenings that slow you down.

Accommodation

Mirima keeps the footprint intimate—ten forest cottages in total (12 rooms)—so the lodge stays quiet even when it’s full. Suites and villas are shaped around the same idea: space and light at the start of the day, then warmth and privacy when you come back—so the lodge feels as good on slow days as it does after time out.

Luxury Suites

Eight suites, each designed for two. You have a private balcony looking out over the crater lakes, an oversized bed, and a fireplace that makes evenings feel settled. It’s the kind of room you’re happy to return to after a morning on foot—shower, firelight, and silence when you want it.

Family Villas

Two villas, built as two-in-one suites—ideal if you’re travelling together but still want your own space. Each villa can host up to six guests, or be booked as individual suites when you don’t need the full footprint. The feel is the same: lake-facing calm, privacy, and an easy base for Kibale days.

Kibale Forest

Kibale Nartional Park is known for primates—a forest that stays busy above your head, with movement in the canopy and calls carrying through the trees long before you see what made them. Chimpanzees are the headline, but the deeper encounter is the forest itself: layered, alive, and best met on foot, quietly, with attention.

The people at the forest edge are part of that story. Life here is shaped around the park—farms on the lodge borders, local guides who read birdsong like a language, and community encounters that feel like introductions rather than performances.

From Mirima, the forest is close enough that you arrive energetic, ready for the morning adventure, not rushing toward it.

Ways to spend the day at Mirima

Start in the forest, then come back to the lake. These are the kinds of days Mirima is built for—close enough to Kibale for early mornings, spacious enough for slow afternoons.

Dining & Cuisine

Mirima feeds you well, in the way that matters after time on an adventure: warm, unhurried, and ready when you are. Rates are all-inclusive, with an a la carte breakfast and four-course lunches and dinners—the kind of meals that let you sit longer than planned and still feel like the day is yours.

At Ziwa Restaurant, the setting does half the work—open views toward the lake and a dining room built for long conversation. The kitchen leans on fresh seasonal ingredients and accommodates dietary needs with quiet ease.

End the day at Kyanda Bar: non-premium drinks are included in the rate, and there’s also a thoughtful selection of international wines, spirits, and locally crafted Ugandan gin when you feel like lingering over one good pour.

Mist Spa

Complimentary 30-minute massage per stay for all residents (subject to availability)

At Mirima, restoration happens when you enter the property gates. From your day's adventures, you come back to lake air and space—a private balcony or terrace looking out over crater lakes, firelight when the evening cools, and a room that lets you sleep comfortably. Meals are unhurried and generous, built around fresh seasonal ingredients, so your body feels looked after as naturally as your day is planned.

Then, when you want to go a step further, the lodge gives you two quiet resets. The infinity pool sits out over the crater-lake valley—an easy swim, then time to do very little. Mist Spa, tucked into a secluded bamboo garden, offers massage therapies and beauty treatments enriched with locally sourced botanicals—the kind of care that loosens the places a trek tightens and leaves you lighter for the next morning.

Getting here

Mirima sits in the crater-lake highlands outside Fort Portal—close enough to feel easy once you’re in western Uganda, and well-placed for early forest mornings and slow afternoons back at the lake.

Most guests arrive in one of two ways: by road via Fort Portal, or by flying to Kasese Airstrip and transferring up into the hills. By road, the lodge is about 20 km (around 30 minutes) from Fort Portal. If you’re flying, Kasese Airstrip is about 56 km (around 1.5 hours) away by road.

For Kibale starts, the visitor centre briefing point is about 16 km (around 20 minutes) from the lodge—close enough that the morning feels steady, not rushed. Driving times can vary with road conditions.

Community & Conservation

Mirima is designed to keep its footprint light and its value close to home—an eco-safari lodge that takes the “eco” part seriously in the everyday details. You’ll see it in small, consistent choices: filtered water in glass bottles, no single-use plastics, and solar power with backup—comfort delivered with a lighter touch.

Beyond the lodge, Mirima works with Gorilla Junction Foundation to support community initiatives shaped for long-term usefulness. That includes the Mirima Water Project and skills programs that help families build steadier livelihoods—beekeeping, mushroom growing, tailoring, and crafts.

If you’d like to engage while you’re here, we’ll introduce you in a way that feels respectful and unforced. And if you don’t, your stay still supports the work quietly in the background.
