Mirima Kibale Lodge sits on the ridge above Lake Nyamirima, with crater Lakes Nyinabulitwa and Nyabikere spread across the landscape and Kibale National Park’s forest line running dark beyond villages and tea plantations. You wake to water below you and in a spacious cottage surrounded by nature. Being close to the park's daily briefing point helps our guests start the morning with time to spare. Mirima keeps the footprint intimate—ten forest cottages in total (12 rooms)—so the lodge stays quiet even when it’s full. At Ziwa Restaurant, the setting does half the work—open views toward the lake and a dining room built for long conversation. The kitchen leans on fresh seasonal ingredients and accommodates dietary needs with quiet ease.

Getting here
Mirima sits in the crater-lake highlands outside Fort Portal—close enough to feel easy once you’re in western Uganda, and well-placed for early forest mornings and slow afternoons back at the lake.
Most guests arrive in one of two ways: by road via Fort Portal, or by flying to Kasese Airstrip and transferring up into the hills. By road, the lodge is about 20 km (around 30 minutes) from Fort Portal. If you’re flying, Kasese Airstrip is about 56 km (around 1.5 hours) away by road.
For Kibale starts, the visitor centre briefing point is about 16 km (around 20 minutes) from the lodge—close enough that the morning feels steady, not rushed. Driving times can vary with road conditions.
Community & Conservation
At Mirima, the environmental choices are practical and visible in the way the lodge operates. The property uses solar electricity with generator backup, collects rainwater, filters drinking water for service in reusable bottles, and grows some produce and herbs onsite. We are now measuring the share of lodge electricity supplied by solar so we can report it accurately.
Beyond the lodge, Mirima works with Gorilla Junction Foundation to support community initiatives shaped for long-term usefulness. That includes projects being developed around Nyamirima village, like skilling programs that help families build steadier livelihoods through beekeeping, mushroom growing, tailoring, and crafts.
